The devastating harms of intergenerational trauma and ongoing colonization are evident in the disproportionate drug related harms suffered by Indigenous populations.
Criminalization is a tactic of colonization. Given the severe impact on Indigenous population, it is imperative that we centre decolonization in our struggle for decriminalization.
We can do this by building solidarity, by challenging colonial approaches wherever we can (including within our own organizations and harm reduction movements), by amplifying Indigenous voices, and by honouring Indigenous knowledge and leadership.
